Born of the Kgalagadi.
The Waterpoint
A family ranch with deep roots in red sand.
Čololo Santas began the way most great herds in Botswana do — with a handful of cattle, a borehole, and a family determined to build something that lasts. Today the ranch runs a growing herd of Santa Gertrudis on open Kalahari veld in the Kgalagadi District.
We believe in low-stress stock handling, careful genetics, and letting the veld do what it does best. Every animal on this ranch — from bull to yard hen — is raised in the open, on natural grazing, by people who know each one.
- Family owned & operated
- Open-veld, free-range grazing
- Careful, documented breeding lines
- Rooted in the local community
"Take care of the veld and the herd, and they will take care of you."— The Čololo Santas family
The Breed
The Santas in our name.
Our herd is built on Santa Gertrudis — the deep-red breed developed for hot, dry country. Their thick hide, heat tolerance and strong mothering make them exceptional performers on Kalahari grazing.
We select for fertility, walking ability and temperament, producing animals that finish well off the veld and breed on season after season — bulls and females fit for any Kgalagadi operation.

Stewardship
We graze rotationally and protect the veld, so the land carries the herd for generations to come.
Quality Genetics
Every breeding decision is deliberate — fertility, hardiness and temperament come first.
Animal Welfare
Low-stress handling, clean water and open space. Calm animals are healthy animals.
Community
The ranch employs, trains and feeds locally — our success is shared with our neighbours.
Meet the Herd
