Santa Gertrudis bred for the veld
The core of Čololo Santas is our Santa Gertrudis breeding programme. We run selected bulls on veld-hardened cows, breeding animals with fertility, walking ability and the deep-red hardiness the Kalahari demands.
Breeding stock and weaners are available seasonally — enquire ahead of auction season.
Kraal Work
Kraaling, weighing & animal health
Regular kraal days keep the herd healthy and the records straight — vaccinations, dipping, tagging, weighing and weaning, all done with calm, low-stress handling in our wooden-post kraals.
Every animal is tagged and tracked from birth, so our buyers know exactly what they're getting.
The Veld
Rotational grazing on Kalahari grass
The Kgalagadi is dry country, and we treat its grass like the asset it is. Camps are rotated with the seasons, boreholes and waterpoints are maintained year-round, and the veld gets time to recover.
Healthy veld means a herd that finishes off natural grazing — the way it should be.
Small Stock
Boer goats & veld-reared sheep
Our Boer goats turn Kalahari browse into some of the best small stock in the district, and the sheep flock grows alongside them. Hardy mothers, strong kids and lambs, and steady offtake for local buyers.
Small stock is available for sale throughout the year — from breeding does to slaughter stock.
The yard flock & working horses
Around the homestead, free-scratching chickens keep the yard alive and the kitchen in eggs. Out on the veld, our horses remain the most reliable way to reach the herd — quiet, sure-footed and tireless in deep sand.
Horseback is still how the Kgalagadi is best worked, and best seen.
Fire & Food
Traditional Kalahari hospitality
Ranch life ends the way it should — around the fire. Three-legged pots, slow-cooked beef, and stories under the biggest sky in Botswana. Visitors are welcomed the traditional way.
